Moisture meters
Moisture meters are used to measure the percentage of water in a given substance. This information can be used to determine if the material is ready for use, unexpectedly wet or dry, or if it needs additional inspection. Wood and paper products are very sensitive to their moisture content. Physical properties are strongly affected by moisture content and a high moisture content over a period of time can progressively degrade a material.

What is a moisture meter?
It is a portable device capable of monitoring the percentage of humidity that a piece of wood has. These machines are not only used by professionals in the world of carpentry, as many DIY enthusiasts use them every time they go to carry out a new project so that the result is the best possible.
An amount of humidity higher than expected can result, for example, in a piece not fitting properly in place, so it is essential to check the percentage of water it has even in domestic tasks.
How does a moisture meter work?
Water transmits electricity, so when wood fibers are impregnated in this liquid, electrical energy is conducted through it. The moisture meter will act as a simple electrical signal generator supplied by a small battery.
Depending on the resistance that the material opposes to the electrical circuit that creates the meter, the latter will know the amount of moisture that the wood has.
To achieve this circuit, the meter sends, through two sharp pins, a small voltage. The resistance offered by the wood to let the electrical energy pass from one to the other is transferred to an indicator that, finally, will translate it into data that will appear on the screen to indicate the amount of moisture of the material.

Relative humidity (H.r.) indicates the relationship between absolute (real) humidity and its saturation. Relative humidity is measured with a humidity meter that has a display that indicates a value from 0% (completely dry air) to 100% (completely saturated air, such as fog, clouds or steam baths). Not all models work in this range; some models have a somewhat shorter range.
