What is a thermohygrometer?

A thermohygrometer is an instrument for measuring temperature and relative humidity. There are many types of thermohygrometerson the market as each has several possible practical applications. The operation in each of them is similar, but changes mainly depending on the use for which it is designed and its performance.

To begin with, we can distinguish between analog and digital thermohygrometers. Analogs usually have a needle that indicates the reading of temperature or humidity on a scale. In their favor we can describe them as very easy to use and often work even without the need for electricity. On the negative side, we highlight that they offer little resolution in reading and offer few advanced features. In the case of digital, the advantages we get are very broad: they have much higher accuracy and resolution, are more reliable, can measure over wider temperature ranges and can be used in many more applications. For example, they can connect to probes with special characteristics or they can record and memorize the data obtained.

Digital thermohygrometersare the most used today, since their advantages make them more versatile and useful. Even in the case of those that are designed for home use, virtually all those currently sold are digital. Let's look for that in the thermohygrometers for professional or industrial use.

A professional thermohygrometer has multiple uses in various professional fields

One of the most common professional uses of thermohygrometersis in the field of food. For food to arrive in perfect condition, it often needs to be preserved between a certain range of temperatures. In the case of the transport of refrigerated food, thermohygrometersare often used that are placed inside the cold room of the vehicle and record the reading of humidity and temperature every 5 or 10 minutes. In this way, when the merchandise arrives at its destination, you only have to download the data to a computer to verify that at no time has there been a temperature record outside the required range.

In cold rooms installed in buildings, thermohygrometersare usually installed on the outside of the chambers and are connected to a probe located inside.

It may also be necessary to measure temperature and humidity in laboratories of any kind, where these environmental parameters can lead to an alteration of optimal working conditions. In the case of studies carried out abroad or in field work, portable thermohygrometersare essential instruments. Here we must emphasize how important the autonomy of these meters is.

Another possible application of a portable thermohygrometer is the control of the environmental quality of enclosed spaces. In this case, its ability to record data for study on a computer is also important, but it may also be important that additional functions can be used to measure air quality. We are talking about more complex instruments that are capable of measuring other advanced parameters, such as the concentration of oxygen, carbon monoxide or carbon dioxide in the air. Undoubtedly, they are very useful functions when we talk about the risks that air pollution has on people's health.

In short, thermohygrometersare measuring instruments with a wide range of possibilities that increases even more with the added functions to measure other parameters.
