A weather station is a device that collects data from different atmospheric variables that are of interest to meteorology. They can be installed in any terrain and part of the world and as we will see later there are several types.

The main utility of a weather station is to collect and record meteorological data, with that data valuable information is created that can have the following functionalities:

Know exactly the weather conditions of that place.

Compare esa information with other weather stations in nearby places.

Create climate information representative of where the data is taken.

Create specific alerts for weather phenomena that may be of interest.

Correlate meteorological phenomena with situations of risk, accidents, destruction of infrastructures, etc.

Information for agriculture. Weather information is valuable information for farms that use this information to make decisions.

The variables that a weather station might record are as follows:

The weather station is an environmental meter that can be used in various fields of application. The weather station measures the smallest wind movements. The weather station can be used to monitor the instantaneous wind speed and generate an alarm.

The weather station measures from small wind speeds. Generically, the weather station is used in all those places where it is necessary to control the wind, such as factories, mines, wind turbines and the like. If necessary, a relay can also be connected to the weather station.

The weather station is enjoying increasing popularity especially in the private sphere. The weather station serves for almost all areas of application since it has a thermometer, hygrometer, barometer and even rain gauge. The digital weather station is composed of a minimum of two separate parts. The base station and sensors for measurement values.

The sensors of the weather station must be placed at the desired measuring point with the help of the included mast. There the sensors work as a data logger collecting the information and finally it is transmitted to the base station. The transfer is done either by radio or by cable directly to the screen. The advantage of the digital weather station is surely that the data is stored and can be consulted at any time.

The connection of the weather station to a PC or laptop makes it possible on the one hand to forecast for several hours or allows the software to analyze and compare the weather fluctuation through graphs and diagrams over a long time.

Changes in atmospheric pressure are only an indicator of climatological evolution. Other factors, such as wind currents, areas of high or low pressure, are not included in the weather forecast of the weather station.

These weather stations are used both indoors and outdoors to measure humidity, temperature, wind speed, air pressure, etc. Some weather stations also have an automatic calculation of the dew point or functions for data storage and its subsequent transfer from the weather station to a computer and thus be able to assess the measurements obtained. Weather conditions play an important role in industrial processes, in laboratories, in warehouses, without forgetting the private sphere, e.g. for the purchase of a home (outdoor / indoor climate, humidity of the walls).
