The oxygen meter is a device for measuring and determining oxygen in liquids and air. With the oxygen meter you can quickly analyze the water by determining the oxygen content. The temperature sensor integrated into the oxygen meter allows automatic temperature compensation.

How to select oxygen sensors

Oxygen transmitters and sensors are used in various industries such as water, wastewater, chemicals, power plants, life sciences, food and beverage, and fish farming. Sensor selection depends on your preferences: amperometric oxygen sensors accurately and linearly measure from traces of oxygen to high concentrations of oxygen. However, they require regular maintenance. The advantages of optical oxygen sensors are the rapid availability of stable measurement values and very low maintenance.

Oxygen measurement with amperometric sensors

Amperometric oxygen probes comprise a cathode and an anode. They are immersed in an electrolytic liquid contained in a common receptacle and a direct voltage is applied to both. The oxygen of the product passes through permeation of the membrane, enters the electrolyte and, when it reaches the cathode, generates a current. The anodo maintains current circulation through an equivalence chemical reaction. The current generated is proportional to the partial pressure of oxygen in the product.

Oxygen measurement with optical sensors

Optical oxygen probes use the optical measurement procedure and comprise an LED, a photodiode and a product separation section that is covered by an oxygen permeable layer. The layer contains marked molecules that are excited by orange light and respond with the emission of red fluorescent light. Oxygen molecules bind to labeled molecules and attenuate (deactivation) fluorescent light. The photodiode then detects the intensity of the light that reflects the partial pressure of oxygen in the product.

Electrode or LED aging compensation

Over time all oxygen sensors can suffer the effects of aging that cause deviations from measurements:

· The anoid of amperometric probes can be covered with a layer of silver bromide that reduces effective stress.

· The measuring LED of the optical probes may lose intensity.

· To compensate for these effects, we offer amperometric sensors with an additional reference electrode and optical sensors with a reference LED. In this way, our sensors provide accurate and reliable heat for a long time.
