Anemometers
ANEMOMETER S
What does an anemometermeasure?
An anemometer measures wind speed, an anemometer can measure the magnitude of total velocity, magnitude of velocity in a plane, or the velocity component in a specific direction.
Anemometersare used in countless applications, from aeronautics to surfers around the world to know the weather conditions. In industrial environments, sensors to determine air velocity are also very common. For example, it is necessary to use industrial anemometersto measure the speed of air in ducts.
Indoors, an anemometer measures air velocity and flow. Air flow in buildings is often measured in cubic feet per minute, using an anemometer to evaluate the performance of heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems and equipment.
In addition to wind or air speed, multifunctional s anemometersmeasure additional parameters such as temperature and humidity. Depending on the model, an anemometer may also possess data logging or data storage functions to make measurements over the long term or over a certain period of time. Data logging anemometersoften feature an internal memory or SD card, USB port, and optional software for detailed analysis via the computer.
An anemometer is also an instrument for measuring the speed or velocity of gases either in a contained flow, such as the flow of air in a duct, or in unconfined flows, such as an atmospheric wind.
To determine the velocity, an anemometer detects the change in some physical property of the fluid or the effect of the fluid in a mechanical device inserted into the flow.
Different types of anemometer
An anemometer normally measures gas flows that are in turbulent flow conditions.
The blade anemometer, thermal anemometer, and cup anemometer (typically used in weather stations) are primarily used to measure mean velocity, while hot wire anemometersare typically used when measuring turbulence characteristics, such as cross-sectional measurements in a cross-section (the term "thermalanemometer" is frequently used to indicate any anemometer. or that uses a relationship between heat transfer and velocity to determine velocity.
Anemometer for weather stations
The bowl or windlass anemometer (used in weather stations) measures velocity in a plane perpendicular to the axis of its rotating cups. If the bowl anemometer is mounted with the axis perpendicular to the horizontal, it will measure only the wind component that is parallel to the ground.
Other anemometers, such as blade anemometers, are used with the tip aligned with the total velocity vector. Before using an anemometer,it is important to determine how it should be located and which component of the total velocity represents its measurement.
Hot saucepan or thread anemometer
Anemometersare sometimes called wind speed or air speed meters, and are generally classified as hot wire or blade. The hot wire anemometer is best for accurately measuring airflow at very low speeds (e.g., less than 2000 feet/min).
Some models are designed to measure speeds up to 15,000 feet/min but still have very accurate measurement capability at much lower speeds. The blade anemometer relies on a rotary impeller to sense air velocity. Blade s anemometersare the best choice for measuring wind speed.
Many have measurement units that can be selected: feet/min, m/s, MPH, km/h and knots to suit a wide variety of applications. A thermoanemometer is any hot wire or blade anemometer that has the additional function of air temperature measurement.
Hygrothermalanemometersinclude the functions of a thermoanometer and a humidity sensor, giving customers complete environmental information. A data logging anemometer is designed to store measurements for later review. Some will download recorded airs speed readings to your computer so they can be viewed, plotted, and analyzed in more detail.
