Depending on the distance and frequency, the signal can be distorted to the point that the information is unreliable. However, these reflections can be easily removed by mounting the correct termination on the end of the cable. In the case of the Dupline the critical distance between the generator and the end of the cable is 2 km or more. So as a rule, if a DT 01 terminal unit is mounted at the far end of the cable when the distance to the channel generator is greater than 1.2 km, reflections are avoided. Note 1: In the event that there are several branches on the cable it will only be necessary to mount a second DT 01 unit if the distance to the nearest DT 01 is greater than 1.2 km. In other cases, a DT 01 unit should not be mounted as this increases the capacity of the cable and therefore reduces the transmission distance. Note 2: The DT 01 unit is the only computer that can remove reflections and therefore cannot be replaced by any other Dupline module.
