The PCE Instruments durometer measures according to the Leeb rebound method. This is a dynamic test method that uses a standard hammer body, usually a metal ball, to impact a surface with a defined energy. As a consequence, a plastic deformation is generated on the surface where the metal ball bounces. This deformation results in a loss of energy that is proportional to the hardness of the test piece, and which is determined through the relationship between the impact velocity and the rebound velocity. The hardness tester is shipped with a type D firing pin, but optionally you can connect other firing pin sensors for special applications (DC, DL, C, D+15, E, G). You can also store the values on a USB stick, which expands the flexibility of this device. The hardness tester is easy to use thanks to its intuitive menu using symbols and an easy-to-read OLED display and an ergonomic housing.
